Ukraine Is Not a Brothel is a documentary about Ukrainian feminist protest collective FEMEN. The film is directed by Kitty Green and will have its Canadian premiere at the 2014 Hot Docs Film Festival in Toronto this month, where there will be three screenings (see showtimes below). Al Jazeera Media Network and Canadian Journalists for Free Expression (CJFE) will hold a press conference on Thursday, 6 February, in Toronto calling on the Egyptian authorities to immediately release five journalists detained there. On December 29th, Canadian-Egyptian journalist Mohamed Fahmy, Peter Greste, and Bahar Mohammed of Al Jazeera English were imprisoned in Cairo. Their Al Jazeera colleagues, Abdullah Al Shami and Mohammed Badr are also in Egyptian custody.

CJFE announces 2013 International Press Freedom Award Winners
TORONTO - Canadian Journalists for Free Expression (CJFE) is proud to recognize Eritrean journalists Dessale Berekhet Abraham, Ruth Zecarias Ghebre and Mebrahtu Teclesion Berhe and Turkish journalist Ahmet Şik as recipients of the 2013 International Press Freedom Awards. The awards will be presented at the 16th annual CJFE Gala, to be held December 4 at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel in Toronto.
CJFE is honoured to support the Lasantha Wickrematunge Memorial Lecture and Fundraising Dinner. Lasantha Wickrematunge was the founder and editor of Sri Lanka's Sunday Leader newspaper. Wickrematunge was extremely vocal in his criticism of government corruption and in his advocacy for inter-ethnic understanding in the tumultuous region. On January 8, 2009, he was gunned down in broad daylight in a Colombo suburb and his murder remains unsolved.
